Somfy is one of the leading and most reputable window treatment motorization companies in the world. Its motorization and automation products are highly utilized in both residential and commercial properties due to their silent and smooth operation.
One of Somfy’s newest innovations belongs to their Sonesse motorization family—the Sonesse 30 Wirefree RTS 12V Rechargeable Motor (also known as the ST30 motor). Unlike other battery-operated motors currently offered in today’s market, the ST30 motor features a built-in, rechargeable lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery and a “torque” (i.e. lifting strength) of 2 Nm. Its rechargeable aspect substantially reduces maintenance requirements (as it eliminates the need for battery replacements) and its wire-free structure allows for a more aesthetically-pleasing appearance, without the utilization of a certified electrician for hardwiring. Furthermore, the improved lifting capacity of this motor has now increased the opportunity to automate larger window treatments with a battery-operated system.
In terms of convenience, the ST30 motor is the most compelling automation option currently available. On average, users can expect approximately one year’s worth of shade operation before a battery recharge is necessary. This translates into about 500 “up-and-down” cycles per charge (this number can of course vary based on the size/weight of the window treatment). Finally, as with all batteries, lithium-ion batteries degrade over time and will eventually require replacement. However, based on Somfy’s testing of load, radio sleep/wake, and overall lifecycle, it has been concluded that the lithium-ion batteries utilized in their ST30 motor can be recharged approximately 500 times. The same batteries are therefore sufficient to provide 500 years’ worth of operation!
The feedback regarding this new motor has been so exceptional that Somfy has made it compatible with most window treatment products, including roller shades, sheer shades, horizontal blinds, roman shades, woven wood shades, and cellular honeycomb shades.
